We’ve chosen Lady Gaga as our March bicon (bisexual icon) – just in time for her birthday on the 28th! A woman who needs little introduction, Lady Gaga is a philanthropist and award-winning musician and actress.
About Lady Gaga
Born Stefani Germanotta to Cynthia and Joseph, Lady Gaga’s love of music began when she started taking piano lessons at the age of four. She shot to fame in 2008 with her debut album, The Fame, which reached number one in several countries including the UK.
Known for her bold fashion choices, theatrical performance style, and powerful vocals, Lady Gaga has firmly established herself as one of the industry’s most unique and interesting talents.
As well as enjoying a successful music career, Lady Gaga has also made a name for herself as an actress. She starred as Elizabeth in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel, a role which earned her a Golden Globe.
In 2018, Gaga starred alongside Bradley Cooper in his remake of the 1937 musical romantic drama, A Star Is Born. The film was a huge success and Gaga’s performance was widely praised by critics. In addition to starring in the film, Gaga also co-wrote and produced most of the songs on the soundtrack.
Her latest, and sixth, studio album, Chromatica, was released in May 2020. To date, Lady Gaga is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, with an Academy Award (for her work on A Star Is Born) and multiple Grammy Awards to her name.
In 2012, she founded the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to empower youth, improve mental health, and prevent bullying. Known for her philanthropy and activism, mental health and LGBT+ causes are close to her heart. A proud bisexual woman, Gaga has stated that her song ‘Poker Face’ is about her bisexuality.
